Cilycwm
Turning
left, we head down the western side of the river Towy to the village of
Cilycwm where its 15th century church has some interesting oil paintings.
The Methodist chapel here disputes with the nearby village of Llansawel
the honour of being the earliest chapel of the denomination in Wales.
Carrying on our tour- keep to the western side of the river for about
five miles until we reach:
Dolauhirion
Bridge
Built
in 1773 by William Edwards,
self-taught engineer and optimist!
It took him three attempts but eventually stayed
up and is one of the longest
single span
bridges of its time. This was also the scene of one of the Rebecca Riots
of 1843 when the nearby toll house was destroyed.
